Christmas Sustainable Sunday
For our December Sustainable Sunday we wanted to bring you an extra special brand, to inspire you to think about the Christmas gifts you may be receiving or giving this year.
Krochet Kids are a wonderful clothing company helping women in poverty stricken regions of the world by training and providing them with jobs. By offering anti poverty wages Krochet Kids strive to empower these women to be able to send their children to higher levels of education, therefore impacting the whole community. They also work with 'Capable' a non profit organisation that offers additional support to these women in all aspects of their lives; whether it be financial services, mentorship or educational programmes. Capable believes that equipping people with knowledge, resources and skills can help people start their own businesses and permanently transition away from poverty.
Every Krochet Kids product is hand signed by the person who made it. It’s hard to describe the feeling of looking at the name of the person who made something you're wearing, written in pen on the label of your clothes…it honestly does make you feel more connected to the person and gives you a real sense of gratitude. It made us realize how disconnected we have all become from thinking about who makes the clothes and products we buy and that we believe there needs to be far more education at a young age in order for us all to live more compassionately and consciously.
You can search for the name of your maker here and learn more about them and their personal dreams and aspirations online. You can even leave a message for them and send your thanks!
Christmas is a time of giving, however it's easy to get caught up in the material aspects of the season in our modern consumerist world. One thing we ask of you this Christmas is to really think about your purchases, think how you can have a positive impact and empower someone by shopping fair-trade. Every toy, piece of clothing or pair of shoes has a story.... wouldn't it be great to know this story and to be able to say you have supported someone and positively impacted their lives?
Although not all their products are vegan there are plenty to chose from - like the Pocket Crew Sweater (as worn by Ceri) and Saturdays Sweater in snowflake (worn by Natalie). They also have a great selection of men's clothes and accessories, and we can confidentially say that Natalie's husband has tried and tested the Drifter beanie hat and bought two he loved it so much!
We would love to hear how you are making a positive impact on the world this Christmas. If you are looking for more fair trade clothing brands be sure to check out our other Sustainable Sunday posts!
