Crazy Sexy Vegan
Last week on the blog Nat shared her story of how she became passionate about living a conscious lifestyle, which you can read here. This week I wanted to share my own story which I hope you’ll find just as inspiring as Nat's. Mine starts with the most important and exciting decision I have ever made; which was turning vegan.
Before making the decision to commit to veganism my diet was pretty atrocious. I had an awful relationship with food and would flip from binging to starving myself. I was insecure about my weight and never felt comfortable in my own skin. The way I was living was far from healthy and it was having a devastating effect on my energy levels, mood and skin.
One day after spending way too much time scrolling through Instagram, I came across a picture of Kris Carr’s book Crazy Sexy Diet. I wasn’t aware of Kris at the time and I certainly wasn’t looking to follow any kind of diet but something about this book spoke to me.
I discovered that it was so much more than a diet. Crazy Sexy Diet was one of the most inspiring, jaw droppig and truthful books I’ve ever read. Kris talks about her cancer diagnosis and how through nourishing her body she was able to control her condition and not only improve her health but thrive. It made me question my own relationship with food. Instead of nourishing my body I was punishing it. I was depriving my body from all the goodness it needed to function. There was no wonder I was under-energised and feeling like absolute crap!
I finished reading the last page of Crazy Sexy Diet and was determind to make a change. I decided to cut out all animal products and follow a plant based diet filled with whole foods, super-foods, green juice and my favourite; almond butter!! It wasn't easy, especially since this was over four years ago, when free from isles and properly labeled vegan products were scarce. I had many a meltdown and even had a member of staff at a supermarket get very impatient with me as I tapped her shoulder to ask for help for the twentieth time.
Despite all of the above, I was not giving up and it wasn't long before my friends, family and I started to notice huge changes. I was happier, more energised, my skin cleared up and I even learnt how to cook, which was a huge bonus!
I can't recommend Kris Carr's Crazy Sexy Diet enough and if you’d like to know more about Kris and order her book then head to her fantastic blog here.
Living consciously for me began with turning vegan and now influences the way I shop, where I shop, how I shop to the way I eat, where I eat and how I eat. Nat and I are so proud to be able to share our journey with you and we really hope that you'll join us!
