Ceri's Morning Routine
Morning is my absolute favourite time of the day. It's a chance for me to focus my mind on the tasks ahead and connect both body and spirit so that I feel energised and ready to take on the day! I spoke to Nat last week about my morning routine and how when I neglect some of my daily practices like meditations and yoga my body will, like a fully charged battery, run for a while and then one day out of the blue, something will change and I'll feel completely drained, stressed and unbalanced. When I'm in that place I find it very difficult to get back on the wellness wagon, which is why I've made a promise to myself that no matter how busy I am I make the effort to complete at least one of these practices each morning. Even if it's only for a few minutes.
The first thing on my agenda when I wake up is to head to the bathroom to clean my teeth with my trusty eco friendly Humble toothbrush made from 100% biodegradable bamboo. Why own a bamboo toothbrush? I hear you ask. Well, every year billions of plastic toothbrushes are produced and most of them end up in landfills and oceans. By buying biodegradable products we are saving the planet one toothbrush at a time! Lessening the amount of plastic that we buy and use is something Nat and I are extremely passionate about. These small changes we make like never buying a plastic toothbrush again go such a long way in terms of saving the future of our planet.
I then wash my face with an organic cleanser from Pai. I've used Pai for years and for someone who has very sensitive skin, extremely prone to breakouts, it's amazing. The founder Sarah Brown is extremely passionate about finding the best, most sustainable organic ingredients that help to target blemish prone skin. A few of my other favourite products that I use regularly are their organic Rosehip BioRegenerate oil and their Geranium and Thistle Balancing Day Cream.
The next thing I'll do is head downstairs and grab a glass of water. I always drink filtered water rather than straight from the tap. It tastes nicer and contains less chloride and bacteria. I'll then head back upstairs and depending on how much time I have I'll either do a fifteen or thirty minute yoga session. Also I'll listen to my body and how it feels on the day and if I'm feeling particularly tired I might take it easy and stretch for around ten minutes instead. If you're not confident enough to do your own practice yet then I can suggest watching some videos from the Alo Yoga channel. I particularly love Caley Alyssa's videos that offer a bit more of a workout within the yoga practice.
After the yoga I'll take just a few minutes to sit and breathe. I absolutely love meditating after yoga since 1) it's so nice to have a break and 2) I am in a place where my body and mind are already calm and I feel ready to sit still and relax. Sometimes I'll do some visualisation meditation that I came across whilst reading 'The Universe Has Your Back' by Gabrielle Bernstein. She offers free downloads on her website and also shares a few videos on her YouTube channel.
After re-hydrating from the yoga practice and making a quick glass of hot water and lemon to kick start my metabolism and cleanse any toxins from of my body, comes my absolutely favourite part of my morning routine- making my matcha latte! It's no secret that Nat and I adore our matcha lattes and we love the practice of making it as much as we love drinking it. I used to warm the kettle up and make a paste with the matcha but I recently watched a video by The Healthy Grocery Girl where she adds the matcha to her milk whilst it froths. Genius! The matcha powder blends with the milk like a dream and creates a delicious, nutritious drink full of antioxidants. The matcha I use is the organic Boost Brain ...matcha powder which you can find in Holland and Barrett.
I hope you've enjoyed reading and watching what I get up to most mornings! We would absolutely love to hear what your morning routine looks like so don't forget to comment below.
