We are so excited to be sharing this post with you as it's our first review of a plant based restaurant based in Wales! Founded by two sisters, Bec and Gaby and named after selecting a few words on a mood board that represented the place to them- ‘Moving Image, Lounge, Gallery, Internet’. Using the first letters of these inspiration words, the name Milgi was born! This beautiful, bright open space is such an amazing, creative spot to hang out and dine. Adorned with plants, colourful cushions and wonderfully eclectic, boho decor there's no surprise these girls both graduated with a 1st in Fine Art! Not to mention their own fermenting kimchi on display as well as a yurt in their garden which is so fun! Milgi is a plant based Restaurant and Bar serving both vegan and vegetarian cuisine. It’s even a restaurant our meat eating Dad’s have enjoyed.
We were pretty pressed to decide what to drink! From their own creative cocktails to hot drinks & juices Milgi focuses on natural flavours and ingredients. We were served the most vibrant, zesty, nutritious juices and lattes in Wales! Our eyes lit up when we saw the 'Vibrant Green Juice' and 'Orange and Carrot' juice being carried to our table, the detail of the presentation was gorgeous. If there's a way to our hearts, it's a green juice! We were also served a 'Cooler' which was a medley of mint, cucumber and elderflower and was as delicious as it's sounds and got us dreaming of summer days! To warm us up after sipping on the hydrating juices we were offered a turmeric latte, which we would never turn down. Another colourful and nutritious drink which we shared whilst scanning through the Sunday menu.
We felt so honoured to be the first to taste their new menu! The most popular dish on their Sunday menu is of course their famous plant based, vegan Sunday Roast; a butter bean and spinach nut loaf accompanied by rosemary lentils, garlic roasted broccoli, carrot mash, roasties and our absolute favourite cashew cauliflower cheese. The lunch was hearty without being overly filling. It was so refreshing to tuck into a delicious Sunday roast knowing that the ingredients were cruelty free, nutrient dense as well as satisfying and so tasty. Another one of their most requested dish is their Rainbow Wholefood Bowl with baked carrot falafel, warm cauliflower, almond and sultana tabbouleh, home made red cabbage sauerkraut, chickpea hummus with steamed kale topped with tahini and turmeric dressing! Which we managed to devour! Are you drooling yet?!
We would advise anyone living in Wales to get their booties down to Milgi ASAP. The cashew cauliflower cheese is a must! After dining in so many plant based restaurants all over the world, it's safe to say that Milgi is most definitely one of our favourite spots for scrumptious, warming, nutrient dense dishes. Their attention to detail, from their food, to their drinks to their decor is delightful. We simply didn’t want to leave! Another bonus is that their ingredients are locally sourced and organic where possible! We really felt that every ingredient and dish had been made with careful consideration and love. The staff were so friendly and enthusiastic we couldn’t have asked for better service!
Thank you so much Milgi for hosting us on a surprisingly sunny Sunday afternoon, we can't wait to return to try every vegan item on the menu including the vegan seafood platter, the green burger and the mostly raw acai berry cheesecake...we would add the heart eyes emoji here if we could!
