Cardiff, Wales' capital City is such an exciting place to visit and has most recently been voted one of the happiest cities in Europe and we can definitely see why! Being vegan in Wales is becoming less of a trend and more of a lifestyle with the demand for plant based food growing at a rapid rate. One of our most recent posts features Milgi, a plant based restaurant in the city offering some of the most innovative vegan dishes we've ever tried and we promise that's not an exaggeration!
Not far from Migi, in the centre of town, nestled in a quaint arcade opposite Cardiff Castle you will find a cute little vegan shop called Simply V! Offering a plethora of vegan products and food; from fresh pastries, pizzas and cakes to candles, clothing and bags. Cardiff really has come a long way and the fact that it is now home to a dedicated vegan store is proof that living a compassionate life is becoming more important to people. Simply V is our go to place if we are looking for something to indulge in; they stock some of our favourite treats from Dandies (the BEST vegan marshmallows from the US that you will ever find) to kookie cat cookies (all organic and vegan). It's like a vegan candy store!
Simply V started out as a market stall selling the most delicious vegan cakes and pastries. After having so much success with their stall and seeing how much demand there was for their products they were inspired to take things a little further and open their own premises. Whilst travelling the world, visiting places like New York, Berlin and London they realised how vast and readily available choices were for vegans who lived in those areas and thought that Cardiff needed the same, et voila, Simply V was born!
This place really does think out of the box, offering not only the most delicious vegan food but creating awesome snacks and meals you wouldn't get anywhere else, such as their egg and cress sandwiches, steak pies and carrot cake. We also love how many products they hold from local businesses, like the Harper's Vegan Friendly Candles and products from abroad that you'd struggle to find even online in the U.K. You can tell that the owners make a real effort to source unusual vegan goodies that you won't find elsewhere in Wales.
Shopping here is such a treat but it should also come with a warning as we normally leave the place with empty wallets and is not the place to go if you are looking exclusively for wheatgrass shots! Although accessibility to vegan products is growing within Wales, it still has a long way to go and places like Simply V are leading the way in offering and giving people the choice to finally buy quality vegan products in their home town.
