Luna Organic Beauty Salon
We can't even describe how excited we were to find Luna, a vegan and organic beauty salon based in Cardiff, South Wales. After travelling all over the world with Eat Sleep Organic, we have been fortunate to come across some of the most incredible places that align with our ethos and lifestyle. Sometimes when returning home from these trips we can feel pretty deflated having had such easy access to products, businesses and places who care about the environment and health just as much as we do. That's why we are always on the lookout for places closer to home that share the same values and offer an unique service that goes against conventional, often toxic skin care and beauty treatments, making it possible to still indulge in a massage, manicure or facial without compromising on the sustainability of the planet and our health!
So what is so amazing about Luna and why does this special beauty salon based in Cardiff differ from any other conventional salon you'll come across in South Wales we hear you ask.
Luna Beauty offers non- toxic beauty, nail and holistic treatments that range from massages, facials, non toxic nail gel, nail polish manicures, waxing, organic spray tanning and much more! Not only are they a salon that uses organic ingredients and treatments but the products they use are all 100% vegan and cruelty free. They are also committed to sustainability throughout their salon by:
Recycling glass plastics paper and cardboard.
Using paper supplies that are of recycled origin.
Using energy efficient LED lighting.
Using eco friendly cleaning products.
Having a reception desk and shop sign that's handmade in UK using VOC free paint.
Wearing aprons made from 100% organic cotton made in Britain.
Many of their products are biodegradable.
Their tea, coffee and refreshments are organic and/or fair trade. We thoroughly enjoyed clipper organic green tea!
Samantha the creative owner of Luna has also formulated her own skincare brand 'Luna Organic Skincare' that works in harmony with their signature beauty and holistic therapies. They contain the purest ingredients from raw botanical plant power and although not certified include organic ingredients. We have found that it is always a great idea to chat to a brand owner about their ingredients as sometimes it is too expensive for a small brand to become certified, however they still may be using organic ingredients and processes! We especially loved the sound of Luna's Orange Blossom Facial Toner and Rose Facial Toner.
Nat has previously enjoyed an aromatherapy massage at the salon, which was so relaxing. This visit we really wanted to try out the nail gel manicures that they offer using non toxic gel polish by Bio Sculpture. 'Bio Gel' is the first gel nail system that lasts up to 3 weeks and soaks off easily without damaging the natural nail. This alternative gel is 100% vegan and cruelty free and we couldn't have been happier with the result! In a previous post we have talked about the nail products that we use at home whilst highlighting the reasons why conventional nail polish is toxic..convention nail gel is even more toxic. The dangerous ingredients often found in gels include BHA and other chemicals that have been known to be harmful to health.
Another great benefit of Bio Gel is that it actually promotes the growth of natural nails so your nails don't feel unhealthy when the gel is removed. Luna also offer a manicure using zoya nail polish, one of our favourite non toxic nail polishes. One of the most significant differences stepping into the salon is that you're not hit with the overwhelming toxic smell of nail polishes, it feels light, clean and calming. Another bonus were the prices! After having been to some amazing but pricey organic beauty salons in London and Los Angeles we expected the prices at Luna to be pretty expensive. However to our surprise their prices are no more than what you would pay at a conventional salon!
A special thank you to Samantha for making us feel so welcome and comfortable at Luna! We will definitely be back for more treatments and definitely have our eye on Luna's soy based candles!
