Apart from being the season to kick off all things pumpkin spiced we love this month for the celebration of Organic September.  Last year we shared 5 reasons to switch to organic and this year we want to share with you our top 5 ways to start incorporating organic into your life.  Don't worry it's not about changing your whole life over night but implementing small changes day to day that can really change your life and create a ripple effect around the world.  

1.  Organic Coffee

We hate to be the bearers of bad news but coffee is one of the most heavily chemically treated foods in the world. So before conventional coffee even reaches your mug it has probably been sprayed with toxic pesticides, fertilisers, herbicides; negatively effecting the environment, the farmers and workers who handle and spray the crops as well as us consumers! Making the switch to certified organic coffee means you can rest assured that your coffee has been grown and processed in a natural way and therefore there is less risk of you ingesting a harmful substance.


2.  Organic Vegetables or Fruit

Introducing organic vegetables and fruit is a great place to start and was how we first started implementing organic into our own lives. If buying all your fruit and vegetables organic isn’t possible or you’re looking for a place to start head to Clean 15 and dirty dozen which is a fantastic guide to the most pesticide heavy vegetable and fruit.


You can even find organic vegetables like potatoes, tomatoes, onions, carrots and broccoli in Aldis and Lidl in the UK, why not add one organic vegetable to your shopping trolley this week? Looking for unpackaged organic produce? - google and Facebook are your best friends! Join a local vegan or environmental group on Facebook and ask your community. Our favourite local organic green grocers is Frosty’s Green Grocers. If you’re living in the US choosing organic is a way to ensure that you are not eating genetically modified food, as unfortunately labelling GMO’s is not mandatory. On our travels in the US we love finding local organic grocery stores and we’ve even found organic vegetables and fruit in Target and Walmart!

3.  Organic cotton

We often don’t think about how the clothes that we wear affect our own health and health of the environment. We have a whole series called Sustainable Sunday where we often talk about brands that are using organic cotton in their manufacturing. Including our favourite capsule collection form P.I.C style, and Ethletic a sneaker brand that uses organic cotton!

 4.  Organic beauty cosmetics

Not only does what we eat affect our health but what we put on our skin gets absorbed into our bloodstream, so we may as well be eating our cosmetics! Therefore surely it makes sense to only put safe ingredients that we would be prepared to eat on our skin?! We have spoken about the benefits of using natural and organic cosmetics in previous posts here and here.


5. Chocolate

Ok we pretty much eat organic chocolate every single day! Although organic chocolate can be a little more expensive we would rather buy something we know has been grown and cared for naturally than risk exposure to harmful pesticides. We have so many favourite brands but we’ve narrowed our favourites down for you - Addictive Wellness, Sacred Chocolate, Ombar, Coco caravan.
